COAHPERD award guidelines
Outstanding Educator
Rules for nomination
Current Member of COAHPERD
Current full time employee at level for which nominated.
Minimum of 6 years experience at the level for which nominated.
Guidelines for Nomination
Utilizes various teaching methodologies and plans innovative learning experiences to meet needs of all students.
Conducts a balanced and sequential curriculum that is developmentally appropriate.
Serves as a positive role model epitomizing personal health and fitness, enjoyment of activity, sportsmanship and sensitivity to the needs of students.
Participates in professional development opportunities.
Evidences professional commitment through membership and involvement in related local, state and national organizations.
Conducts special activities/programs/presentations for school/agency/community/peers.
Has two letters of recommendation which speak directly to the these guidelines (One of which must come from the school principal).
A current resume.
Outstanding Future Professional
A junior or senior majoring in the field of health, physical education, or recreation in a Colorado college/university.
Current member of COAHPERD.
Is involved in the student section of COAHPERD.
Serves as a positive role model epitomizing personal health and fitness, enjoyment of activities and sportsmanship.
Has two letters of recommendation which speak directly to the these guidelines and a current resume
Outstanding Young Professional
Has no more than 5 years experience in the field.
Has demonstrated excellent potential in the area of teaching, research, coaching, leadership, performance, clinics and/or administration which are consistent with the promotion of the Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance professions.
Current member of COAHPERD.
Has two letters of recommendation which speak directly to the these guidelines and a current resume
Outstanding Administrator
Provides monetary support for attending workshops, conventions, professional leaves and for your program.
Attends a majority of programs and events sponsored by you including but not limited to: Physical Education demonstrations, dance recitals, field days, health fairs, special fund raising events, visitations to classrooms/gymnasiums.
Actively supports your program/curriculum.
Endorses and serves as a model for a healthy lifestyle.
Acknowledges and recognizes your contributions to the climate of your particular school/agency.
Has two letters of recommendation which speak directly to the these guidelines and a current resume
Business/Industry
Consistently provides leadership and support for HPERD goals and activities in the workplace and/or community at large.
Provides significant contributions in the areas of employee wellness, physical activities, health maintenance, and health.
Has two letters of recommendation which speak directly to the these guidelines and a current resume
Recognition
An individual who is not
directly involved in the fields of health, physical education, recreation or dance.
Has made a major contribution to the profession through help in the development of programs, publicity, public relations and/or support.
Has two letters of recommendation which speak directly to the these guidelines and a current resume
Honor Award
Current member of COAHPERD.
The candidate shall have been a resident of Colorado for five years.
The candidate shall have been active in the fields of health, physical education, recreation or dance for at least five years.
The candidate shall indicate leadership or meritorious service in five or more of the following ways:
Leadership
A member of the COAHPERD Executive Board (past or present).
An officer of other professional organizations (for example, NEA, Coaches Association, School Health Association, etc.)
A chairperson of a COAHPERD committee.
Participated actively in committee work over a period of three or more years with local or state organizations, either COAHPERD or with an organization promoting the same general objectives as COAHPERD.
Chairperson of a Section or a Council in AAHPERD or a District of AAHPERD.
Writing, Research
Provide systematic research which has helped the profession.
Author or co-author of articles in professional literature.
Author of articles for handbook, newspapers, magazines, and/or books.
Speaking, Teaching, Coaching, Performing, Supervising, Directing
Significant addresses before educational groups, conventions, assemblies, luncheon meetings, radio or TV presentations and other such meetings held in the interest and promotion of health, physical education, recreation and dance.
Recognized outstanding school or college teaching and/or administrative leadership ability and success.
Outstanding contribution to HPERD as a program supervisor or director in school systems or community departments of agencies.
A contribution to the profession through the conduct of clinics or workshops.
An outstanding original contribution to the profession which has affected its philosophy or practices.
Has two letters of recommendation which speak directly to the these guidelines and a current resume
Exemplary Service
COAHPERD member for a minimum of five years.
Has demonstrated commitment and dedication to the accomplishment of the mission and goals of COAHPERD.
Has two letters of recommendation which speak directly to the these guidelines and a current resume
